Valdano: Media, not Real Madrid fans, want Pellegrini sacked

Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano insists the fans are supportive of coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Pellegrini is under huge pressure after their Champions League failure against Olympique Lyon.

But Valdano has endorsed the coach and adds: "I did not hear the Bernabeu asking for the removal of the coach, it is a proof of the maturity of Real Madrid.

"True, I read articles against Pellegrini from aggressive journalists that are fighting against him, but I think there is the general feeling of support."

Asked if president Florentino Perez has urged him to step in for the Chilean, Valdano said: "I've never heard Florentino say that he wants me on the bench."
