Valdano assures Real Madrid fans Higuain will stay

Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano has assured fans they will not allow top scorer Gonzalo Higuain to slip through their hands.

With Manchester City circling, Higuain, who scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win at Real Valladolid on Sunday night, has now hit 19 goals in what is proving to be an excellent season for Los Merengues.

Indeed, the 22-year-old's form this season has helped him outshine many of the so-called Galacticos at the Bernabeu and prompted new contract talks with Valdano keen to extend his deal.

"He is a player with a perfect record," Valdano told Spanish media.

"We are talking with him but there is no rush. We want to renew his deal and for him to finish his career at Real Madrid."
