Usmanov furious with treatment by Arsenal board

Alisher Usmanov is furious with the way he has been publicly treated by the Arsenal board.

Usmanov upped his stake in the Gunners to 23 per cent this morning and now the 54-year-old is ready to hit back by going public with his vision for the club.

A source close to the billionaire told the Mirror: "Alisher is very angry at the rubbish and slurs that are being written and wants to explain the truth to Arsenal fans and the people in England.

"He feels he has been treated with disdain by the board at Arsenal and denigrated by comments, especially given that he now has a significant shareholding."

Former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein - who sold his 14 per cent stake in the Gunners to Usmanov for £75m - is also believed to be "hurt" by Hill-Wood's damning remarks about his role in the Russian consortium.

It is clear now that Usmanov will go on the counterattack before Arsenal's AGM on October 18 to try to win over fans ahead of a full takeover bid next spring.
