USA's Klinsmann calls up 23 players for Scotland, Austria friendlies

Juergen Klinsmann has named his 23-man USA squad for upcoming friendlies with Scotland and Austria.

The US take on Gordon Strachan's Scots at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Friday before travelling to Vienna to meet Marcel Koller's Austrian side at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion on Tuesday.

Among Klinsmann's roster is Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard, Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore, in-form strike duo Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna) and Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar) and German-based trio John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim) and Jermaine Jones (Schalke).

LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan misses out while Seattle Sounders pair Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson remain in the squad.

Klinsmann said: "We are excited about the group we have coming in and the big opportunity to finish the year on a high note.

"We want to use these games to prove a point and see that our players are continuing to improve as we build towards the World Cup. The results in MLS wound up fitting in with our roster plans, so we didn't need to call in any guys who are still in the playoffs. There are some injuries issues that now give other players the chance to step up."
