Michael Bradley felt the USA national team deserved to beat Mexico in Wednesday night's friendly.
The Toronto FC midfielder scored in the 15th-minute as the US squandered a two-goal lead to be held to a 2-2 draw by arch enemies El Tri at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
After the match, Bradley spoke of how the US allowed Mexico back into the game before suggesting he and his teammates performed well enough to produce a victory on home soil.
"I thought the first half was pretty good. We talked at halftime about understanding what they were going to put in at the beginning of the second half," said the former AS Roma star.
"But obviously just because you talked about it, doesn't mean we are able to prevent it. They're still a team that lives off confidence; they get a goal and the crowd gets into it and they start feeling pretty good about themselves.
"When they get to 2-2, at that point, the game opens up and they can score or we can score. At the end, we deserve to win I think.
"If you look at it from the bigger picture, good game, great atmosphere, good night for the fans, and a good test for us as we move forward toward the summer."
Bradley opened the scoring before setting up Chris Wondolowski for a second prior to the half-hour mark but Mexico rallied with second-half goals from veteran Rafa Marquez and UANL star Alan Pulido who now has four goals in three international appearances.
