USA to fully support Sunderland want-away Altidore

USA manager Juergen Klinsmann says he will fully support Jozy Altidore regarding his situation at Sunderland.

The 24-year old striker told the press this week that he may be forced to look elsewhere in the January transfer window if he does not receive more game time with the Black Cats.

Former AZ Alkmaar ace Altidore has received just 53 minutes under Gus Poyet so far this Premier League season but is certain to get more game time for the US in their friendlies with Ecuador on Friday and Honduras on Tuesday.

Klinsmann said Altidore's club situation was not ideal but insisted that the US setup would give him all the backing he needs to continue performing consistently for his country.

"We discussed it already in Prague already (in early September). It's a tough period for him, a tough situation," Klinsmann said.

"You want to kind move step by step upwards. If you're not getting playing time, then it's really difficult to stay sharp, to stay confident, to keep a rhythm.

"All we can do from our end is to give him encouragement, to keep him as sharp as we can when he comes in here. We know what he can do. We know his potential. We know his qualities. Right now, it doesn't seem that it fits so well there."
