USA crush Spain in Confederations Cup semi-final
In one of the greatest matches in U.S. Soccer history, the U.S. Men's National Team have defeated Spain 2-0.
Goals from Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey was enough to defeat the No. 1-ranked Spain to advance to the finals of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.
The match will be the USA's first appearance in a world final at any level.
Altidore’s strike came in the 27th minute, and Dempsey’s insurance goal came in the 74th during the match played at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Tim Howard returned to goal and made eight saves. The U.S. is now 2-7-1 all-time against the top team in the FIFA World Rankings.
The U.S. snapped Spain’s FIFA-record 15-game winning streak, and left Spain tied with Brazil (1993-1996) for the world’s longest unbeaten streak.
The U.S. will face the winner of the Brazil-South Africa match in the final of the Confederations Cup on Sunday, June 28.

I had never seen the US team play as the played Spain. This was a total diferent team than the one that we saw in the first two games. I beleive the US have the chance to win the cup if they play smart, with courage and with their haerts.
Go USA! Hehehe. Dempsey was motm, and I think the US defenders were really good. Spain were far too complacent, and I think their coach also made poor decisions, taking off Fabregas was just ridiculous, he was the only player who was sparking up a dangerous offense for Spain!!! After Fabregas was sent off Spain were never threatening again. Xavi and Xabi Alonso were both not that good, one of these should have been taken off instead of Fabregas. If the coach would have had the balls to take off Xavi it would have sent a strong message to the team that performance is the only thing that counts, not status as a Barcelona star. The substitution decisions by del Bosque made Spain weaker in each case. Poor job from the coach. But overall the USA just wanted to win much more badly than Spain did, many Spain players seemed to think they could just show up and win without having to try hard. Great job from USA, go go go for the final!!!!
