USA-born Rossi cut from Italy squad

American-born Giuseppe Rossi has missed out on his World Cup dream after being cut from the Italian squad.

The 23-year old New Jersey native grew up playing the sport in as an American but knew that he always wanted to represent the Azzurri at international level.

If he had decided to play for the USA, he would definitely have his World Cup chance but that was not to be and although he missed out, he has no regrets.

"Didn't make it, but i have no regrets...worked hard and showed what i could do..i guess the coach had other plans. good luck Italy, can't wait to go back home to my family now.......!! gonna enjoy a beautiful summer...'' he posted on his Twitter page.

Currently with Spanish club Villarreal, Rossi said it was always about Italy for him and following the World Cup disappointment, plans to win many more caps for the Azzurri in years to come.

"When I was a kid, I grew up watching Italian soccer,'' Rossi told the Post. "Everything I did on the soccer field was based on my father's training and off what I saw on TV from the likes of (Roberto) Baggio, (Alessandro) Del Piero, (Gianluca) Vialli, etc. and also from my favorite team since I was 2, AC Milan.

"Growing up the way I did, my dream was always to play with the Italian jersey and today I did so 14 times and hope to get many more.''
