US midfielder Holden fails to get through Bolton U21 match

Stuart Holden has failed to get through a match with Bolton's U21s side upon his return from a lengthy absence.

The 28-year old American midfielder has been sidelined since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in last summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup while on the duty with the USA national team.

Holden went to ground in the 26th minute of the Trotters' clash with Everton's U21s and immediately clutched his knee but the Championship club said he was able to run from the pitch.

A series of tweets from Bolton read:

Former Houston Dynamo star Holden, who was Bolton's Player of the Year in 2010/11, has figured just four times for the Whites in the past three years because of a serious knee injury sustained in March 2011 and his more recent problem which still seems to trouble him.
