Everton's Tim Howard says he will not be playing professional soccer after he turns 40.
The 35-year old USA national team goalkeeper last week signed a two-year contract extension with the Toffees which will take him through to the summer of 2018.
Upon signing the deal, Everton boss Roberto Martinez suggested that Howard would play into his 40s but the man himself has ruled that out, saying he will be retired by the time he ends the fourth decade of his life.
"I'll be on a beach somewhere when I'm 40," Howard told ESPNFC.com.
"I would pretty much take that to the bank that I won't be playing past 40. There are other things I want to achieve in life, other things that I want to do."
Howard's contract situation has also basically ruled out a future move to MLS which had been an option prior to him committing to Goodison Park.
"Up until last week it was a possibility," Howard added.
"But I think that ship has sailed for me now. I think MLS had its chance, if I'm being honest, but now I'll finish my career with Everton and be a happy man."
