Uruguay president Mujica lends his support to Liverpool's Suarez

The president of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, has backed Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, saying he is not a racist.

The Uruguay national team star received an eight-match ban earlier this season after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra with that incident coming to the surface again this week after he failed to shake the Frenchman's hand ahead of the Old Trafford meeting on Saturday.

Mujica insists that his fellow countryman is not racist whilst labeling him a 'genius' on the football pitch.

"There is solidarity with Suarez. Suarez is not a racist and never will be," he said on Uruguayan radio station M24.

He also added the following in an interview with Busqueda: "There is nothing racist.

"He's a young genius on the football field, (and) humble."
