Upson ignoring Beckenbauer criticism

Matt Upson says England are ignoring Franz Beckenbauer's criticism of their play as they focus on kick-starting their campaign, reports The Sun>i>. The Germany legend accused the Three Lions of playing "kick and rush football" against the USA and said they had gone backwards under £6million-a-year boss Fabio Capello.

But Upson insisted the England camp could not care less what Beckenbauer thinks and that they were only interested in winning games.

He said: "We will play the football that suits us best.

"We want to win matches, so we will play the style according to that.

"Whatever he thinks about our style of play is his opinion.

"If we are accused of kick and rush but win something, I don't think many people would complain."
