University unhappy with Barcelona stadium announcement

Barcelona's new stadium plans have hit a road block.

Barca this week announced plans to either redevelop their current Nou Camp home or move to land owned by the university adjacent to the Avinguda Diagonal in L'Hospitalet.

The club are hoping to increase capacity from the current 99,354 to 105,000.

However, the University on Thursday released a statement in which it denied holding any talks with the Spanish champions and reiterated its unwillingness to sell any land.

The statement on ub.edu read: "With regard to the stories that have been reported in recent weeks about the new movement of the FC Barcelona stadium, and what took place at the board meeting on Monday, the Universitat de Barcelona asks not to be included in this debate.

"The position of UB remains the same as expressed in its last communication of March 15, 2012.

"In the case that FC Barcelona expressed its interest in any part of the university, the rectorate would tell them the position of UB on this question."
