Uncertainty surrounds proposed Cyprus move for Toronto's Henry

Toronto FC have played down reports that defender Doneil Henry will be moving to Europe next year.

Reports on Thursday suggested that the 21-year old Canada international had been sold to a club in Cyprus prior to the 2014 MLS season but was loaned back to the Reds for the rest of the campaign and quite possibly for next year.

Toronto general manager Tim Bezbatchenko told reporters from Sportsnet and The Canadian Press this week that indeed the transfer had been organized earlier this year.

"We took the offer seriously," Bezbatchenko told the outlets. "But it was on the condition that he'd be loaned back to us for the remainder of the year and potentially for 2015."

TFC head coach Greg Vanney was of the belief that the academy product of the Canadian club would be remaining at the BMO Field next year as stipulated in the initial deal with the unnamed Cypriot outfit.

"For me, when a player wants to try to pursue things overseas, we want to be supportive," Vanney said at training.

"At the same time, we wanted him here, and it's an arrangement where he's a Toronto FC player as long as he and we agree on that."
