UEFA will not give any special treatment to Rangers

Rangers chances of competing in European competition next season are even slimmer with UEFA highly unlikely to give the club an extension of the deadline to secure a licence.

After falling into administration recently, the Glasgow club have no prospects of playing in the Europa League next campaign and with UEFA Events chief executive David Taylor saying they will not extend a deadline past March 31, it appears as though the Ibrox outfit will be missing in Europe for the first time since 1980/81.

"I note what they say about European qualification next season," Taylor said.

"From UEFA's point of view, there are certain deadlines that have to be met and, if they're not met, they will not be playing in Europe.

"They have to make the deadline. There will be no extensions.

"I suspect that's not even the major problem they're facing at the moment," added Taylor.

"Their problems are a bit more fundamental than that and I can only wish that somehow they can get themselves through this."
