UEFA's technical director Andy Roxburgh says Manchester United and Arsenal will continue to dominate Europe, despite this year's early Champions League elimination.

Roxburgh believes that the foundations established by Sir Alex Ferguson at United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal will ensure continued success for those clubs.

"Manchester United and Arsenal are very much on Barcelona's wavelength in terms of developing players and in developing a style and an attitude," he said.

"Alex and Arsene have instilled a work ethic and a humility and a creative short-passing game which is very much in the style of Barcelona.

"That's a basis for success and the icing on the cake is buying a certain special player such as Wayne Rooney."
