Udinese striker Pepe: Brazil had Italy struggling

Udinese striker Simone Pepe was disappointed with Italy's 2-0 defeat to Brazil.

Pepe said: "Certainly tonight Brazil kept possession and put us under pressure, but we'll see where we both are in 2010.

"We struggled to push up and were pinned back as Brazil came forward with full-backs as well as their attacking players, so we didn't have much chance to push.

"They passed the ball around well in midfield and tired us out, but in the second half we had three or four clear-cut chances."

Pepe was chosen to complete the trident attack with Antonio Di Natale and Alberto Gilardino, a surprise as Marcello Lippi had been expected to field Mauro Camoranesi from the start.

"The Coach made his choices and told me this morning I would start. Like everyone I gave 100 per cent, it didn't go well and now we must look forward to the next match.

"We will face Brazil again and we'll see in the Confederations Cup how Italy and Brazil are doing at that stage."

Pepe added: "I prefer to get the ball out wide and run at my opponent. Brazil had the ball more often, so I mainly had to defend and help out Gianluca [Zambrotta].

"The Coach asked us to play as wide attackers, but in a game not everything goes to plan. If Grosso's goal was awarded, then Brazil would uncover themselves a little and we could have really hurt them on the counter."
