Udinese patron Pozzo shocked by dismal Euro home crowd

Udinese patron Giampaolo Pozzo was stunned by the tiny crowd for their Europa League draw with PAOK.

Pozzo was shocked that PAOK's away fans outnumbered the hosts.

"I still have to recover from what I have seen," blasted Pozzo. "Our great efforts lead to excellent results, but the fans don't see that. What I saw yesterday was disturbing.

"I cannot explain this attitude. It will take time, as this is a difficult thing to get over. The indifference of the fans during this splendid moment for Udinese is mortifying. However, when things aren't going well, they all pipe up with criticism at the slightest error."

The Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region is not known for having a big football culture and Pozzo launched a warning.

"If we continue like this, we risk ending up the same way as Triestina, a once glorious club now on the verge of bankruptcy.

"It's not an issue of investing money, but rather what is around the club. If the supporters disappear, then it's inevitable that sooner or later the team will do the same. Without passion, it's all over."
