Although the European transfer window closed on 31 August, clubs in the Middle East can still buy players and Kalou has signed a three-year deal with Al Jazira.
"Kalou's departure is a blow for us as he is one of the most experienced players in our squad," said new Lens coach Jean-Pierre Papin.
