TWITTER SPECIAL: Reina, Arbeloa and Xabi in awe of Liverpool great Gerrard

Steven Gerrard has announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after 25 years at the famous club.

The 34-year old Reds captain has opted to end his time at Anfield at the culmination of the current campaign and as expected, the news has sent shockwaves around the general football community.

Below is a collection of Tweets from Gerrard's past and present teammates who took to Twitter to let their adoration of the former England skipper be known to all.

First off, Liverpool FC paid tribute to their influential midfielder who has lifted the Champions League trophy, FA Cup and League Cup as captain of the club.

Bayern Munich star Xabi Alonso, who played alongside Gerrard between 2004 and 2009, was full of praise for his old mate.

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, now with Bayern, spent almost a decade with Gerrard as a teammate.

Luis Garcia shared the midfield with Gerrard during his stint on Merseyside from 2004 to 2007.

Swansea City's Jonjo Shelvey has previously labelled 'Stevie G' as his footballing idol.
