Twente chief Van Leeuwen welcomes Man City youngster Smith: A very un-English player

Manchester City youngster Matthew Smith is delighted with his move to FC Twente.

Smith has signed for Twente on a season-long loan.

The defensive midfielder, 18, said: "I am looking forward to playing for FC Twente. Recently I have seen a lot of the club and I am impressed how massive FC Twente is.

"It's fantastic how many supporters continue to support the club, I'm happy with the chance I get here."

Twente chief Ted van Leeuwen also stated: "Matthew is one of the better talents of Manchester City.

"He can be used in all midfield positions and as a defender. A very elegant, almost un-English player. I am very happy that City entrusts us with the future of one of their top talents."
