ENSCHEDE: Tottenham have managed to retain top spot in Group A following a 3-3 draw with FC Twente in Holland.
Spurs struck first thanks to a Peter Wisgerhof own goal in the 12th minute but the home side leveled ten minutes when Denny Landzaat converted from the penalty spot.
Jermain Defoe announced his return to form with a cool clip over Twente keeper Sander Boschker two minutes after the re-start but again their lead didn't last all that long when Rosales Roberto headed home in the 55th minute to make it 2-2.
For the third time, Tottenham took the lead when Defoe tucked it away on the rebound from a Wilson Palacios shot before Nacer Chadli tied it up yet again in the 64th minute with a stunning 25-yard free-kick.
Tottenham finished on top with 11 points from their six group stage matches to go through to the second phase with title holders Inter Milan who ended a point in arrears.
