Turnbull growing into No1 job at Middlesbrough

Ross Turnbull is feeling more comfortable as Middlesbrough's No1 after their victory over Manchester City.

"That was splendid last night, especially after what happened the last time we're at home," goalkeeper Turnbull told Boro's website. "But that's forgotten about now, we're looking ahead and moving on.

"We're a young, confident set of lads who want to learn and do what the gaffer wants and that's play good football. A clean sheet against top international players is a good team effort I think."

Gareth Southgate has always maintained that players in are in the side on merit and was quick to add his own word of praise for his current number one.

"Brad Jones can feel desperately unlucky not to be in the side right now, but Ross is playing superbly. There were two or three occasions last night when he was left with one on ones when we didn't defend properly and he stood up to the task well.

"He's really growing in stature and making the shirt his own as of right."
