The arrival of Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli at Middlesbrough is having fringe benefit for Northeast rivals Newcastle United.
Emre admits he feels more settled at St James's Park since compatriot Tuncay moved to the area. Emre was persistently linked with moves away from Tyneside in the summer but he says he is happier now striker Tuncay has joined Middlesbrough.
"Every week we meet," said the 27-year-old. "He is a very big friend."
