England will play midweek games on Tuesdays after next year's World Cup. FIFA are set to cave in to pressure from Premier League clubs and shift midweek internationals, reports The Sun. Traditionally, international fixtures are played on a Wednesday. But after Premier League clubs complained that they do not get players back early enough for the following weekend's fixture list, FIFA are set to move matches forward by 24 hours. The proposal will not be put in place until after next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.
And initially it will only involve dates where fixtures double up over a Saturday and a midweek game - for example, later this month when Capello's team go to Ukraine on October 10, then face Belarus at Wembley four days later. In recent years, Premier League bosses Hughes have slammed the timing and number of international fixtures.
