Atletico Madrid want Diego Costa to stay with Chelsea until January, it has been revealed.

Onda Cero says Atletico and Chelsea have settled on a €45m fee for the Spain international, but there's a hitch.

Atletico do not want Costa kicking his heels for four months, as they cannot immediately register him due to their transfer ban.

Instead, they're insisting Costa make peace with Chelsea and return to play in London for the first-half of the season before joining them in January.

The stumbling block is the player, who has effectively talked his way out of any chance of reconciliation with a series of statements attacking manager Antonio Conte over the past week.

For now, Costa remains in Brazil waiting for a solution to be found.
