Trio of players withdraw from England squad

Daniel Sturridge has joined Jermain Defoe and Michael Carrick in pulling out of England's squad for Wednesday's prestigious friendly against Brazil, reports BBC Sport. Liverpool forward Sturridge, 22, joined up with the squad but has been ruled out with a thigh injury.

Tottenham striker Defoe suffered an ankle injury in a win at West Bromwich Albion, while Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has a hip injury.

No replacements have yet been named for Roy Hodgson's 24-man squad.
