Brisbane Roar has appointed former Socceroo Paul Trimboli to the position of General Manager of Football.

Trimboli, 42, will step into the newly created position at the club on August 1 as preparations continue for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season and Brisbane's title defence.

A Certified Practising Accountant, Sponsorship and Promotions Manager and a two-time Johnny Warren Medal winner Trimboli brings both a wealth of football experience and business acumen to the job.

Brisbane Roar CEO Eugenie Buckley said Trimboli's appointment was an important part of the club's evolution.

"We're extremely excited to have secured someone with Paul's experience to fulfil such a vital role in the club," Buckley said.

"We feel Paul's standing within the game, the respect he garners within the football community and the exceptional business experience he's gained were a perfect fit for the position.

"Paul will form an important part of our administrative team and will be responsible for managing the business requirements of the Football Department.

"In conjunction with the administrative part of the role, Paul will also work closely with Head Coach Ange Postecoglou to deliver the best possible football outcomes.

"We are confident Paul's arrival will play an important part in continuing to develop Brisbane Roar as a pace-setter in the Hyundai A-League both on and off the park."

Trimboli won three National Soccer League titles with South Melbourne (1991, 1998 and 1999) and also took part in the club's Club World Championship in 2000, experience which will serve the club well as it embarks on its first ever ACL Champions League campaign in February.

He has worked extensively as an accountant as well as providing in-depth analysis of Hyundai A-League games on both radio and television.
