Tribal XI: Most Expensive Transfers of 2013 summer window

With the transfer season coming to a close, we thought we would take a very quick look at the most expensive players in the world.

Rather than just list the top few, we have put together a starting XI plus four players on the bench of those with the biggest transfer fees in the 2013 summer window, purely from a positional point of view.

Goalkeeper

Simon Mignolet (Liverpool) Belgian goalkeeper signed from Sunderland for £9million (€10.5m), deposing Anfield veteran Pepe Reina.

Defenders

Daniel Carvajal (Real Madrid) The 21-year old Spanish right-back returns to Madrid from Bayer Leverkusen after joining the Germans from Madrid's B team last summer. Cost £5.4m (€6.5m) as a buy-back option after one season with Leverkusen.

Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain) 19-year old Brazilian centre-back joined PSG from AS Roma for £26.9m (€32m) showing how much the French champions rate him. Tipped for very big things.

Mamadou Sakho (Liverpool)Liverpool signed the imposing 23-year old French centre-half from PSG for £18m (€21m) on deadline day. Has 14 caps for France.

Lucas Digne (Paris Saint-Germain) 20-year old French left-back who joined PSG from Lille for £12.6m (€15m). Has represented France at all youth levels.

Midfielders

James Rodriguez (Monaco) The 21-year old Colombian winger landed at big-spending Monaco from FC Porto for £39m (€45m) becoming the second most expensive transfer from a Portuguese side behind ex-teammate Hulk (Zenit St Petersburg).

Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) German attacking midfielder picked up from Real Madrid for £42m (€50m) in his absolute prime at 24 years of age. Has 47 caps and 14 goals for Germany.

Fernandinho (Manchester City) 28-year old Brazilian midfielder who rose to fame with Shakhtar Donetsk before City paid in excess of £30m (€40m) for his services.

Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) Superstar Welsh winger who cost Madrid a world record £85.3m (€100m). Was one of the best few players in the Premier League who will now look to vindicate the biggest transfer fee in history.

Strikers

Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain) Uruguayan striker who became the most expensive player in French football history when PSG paid Napoli £54m (€64.5m). Fifth biggest transfer in history who is a prolific goalscorer.

Radamel Falcao (Monaco) Falcao cost Monaco £50.4m (€60m) following two remarkable seasons with Atletico Madrid. Colombian striker who only finished behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on Spain's scoring charts last term.

Bench:

Vladimir Gabulov (Dinamo Moscow) - Russian goalkeeper bought from Anzhi Makhachkala for £5.8m (€7m).

Mehdi Benatia (AS Roma) - 26-year old Moroccan defender signed for £11.3m (€13.5m) from Udinese.

Asier Illarramendi (Real Madrid) - Madrid made the 23-year old midfielder their most expensive Spanish player when they paid Real Sociedad £32.8m (€39m).

Neymar (Barcelona) - 21-year old Brazilian signed from Santos for £48m (€57m) to become the ninth overall highest transfer.
