TRIBAL TRENDS – TRANSFERS: Ronaldo to.. PSG? Man Utd?; Mbappe picks Liverpool? Mahrez warns Barca?

With the amount of rumours swirling around at this time of year, even after the winter transfer window, it is sometimes difficult to decipher the truth.

These are matters of importance.

As the transfer talk is now directed at the all-important summer market, there are enormous amounts of speculation swirling around Europe and the UK.

Not to worry however, because here at Tribalfootball, we have broken down the week's hottest transfer rumours, and inform you whether you should believe the paper talk or not.

Here are our top five trending transfer stories for the past week:

FabinhoMonaco

Clubs Interested: Manchester United

As in commonplace in today's football world, social media activity leads to transfer speculation.

The latest incident involves Monaco midfielder Fabinho and his wife, Rebecca Tavares.

Tavares caught the eye of The Sun after she was spotted 'liking' an Instagram post by a Manchester United fan that pleaded with her husband to join the club.

Despite being under contract with the principality club until 2021, Fabinho has expressed his desire to join United.

He said: "My objective is to get to a club with the dimension of Manchester United.

"I have no clue if one day I'll be a United player, but I'll keep working so it stops being a rumour and becomes reality."

Recent reports have claimed that Jose Mourinho favours Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier over Fabinho.

Be that as it may, it is hard to envisage Spurs selling their prized young talent to a rival, which means Mourinho could have no choice but to sign the 23-year old Brazilian.

From Monaco's perspective, they are reportedly keen to hold onto Fabinho, but after their sale of Bernardo Silva to Manchester City, it is clear that every player has their price.

Likelihood: This could happen

Cristiano RonaldoReal Madrid

Clubs Interested: PSG, Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has given Real Madrid president Florentino Perez an ultimatum – meet my contract demands or I'm leaving.

According to Record, the Portuguese is giving the club the next few months to settle his contract negotiations.

If the deal goes wayward, Ronaldo will seriously consider leaving the Bernabeu.

The report lists PSG, China and his former club, Manchester United, as possible destinations.

What a story this would be.

The four-time Ballon D'Or winner, arguably one of the greatest footballers of all time, could be on the shopping block.

The 32-year old has won everything with Los Blancos, most recently leading his team to history by becoming the first successive Champions League winners (and he scored a brace in the final).

There are so many variables to consider with a transfer of this magnitude. Ronaldo still has a contract with Real until 2021.

That is the biggest sticking point with this move. If Messi's release clause is £350m, then what would Perez want for Ronaldo?

Likelihood: In another world… maybe

Kylian MbappeMonaco

Clubs Interested: Liverpool

L'Equipe reports that Liverpool have been 'propelled' into the race for Kylian Mbappe.

The 18-year old's representatives were said to be impressed with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp after a meeting last month.

Yes, it is hardly surprising that this revelation has been attributed to the charismatic charm of Jurgen Klopp.

But there is no chance Liverpool will fork out the reported €100m fee for the France international. Not while FSG own the club anyway.

Likelihood: None

Riyad MahrezLeicester City

Clubs Interested: Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea

Riyad Mahrez wants to join Barcelona.

However, according to Sport, Barca are focused on signing a right-back and a midfielder and have asked Mahrez – through his discussions with his representatives – to remain patient.

The report suggests – and fair play to the Algerian – that Mahrez has told Barca that he has another offer from Arsenal waiting for him.

So what will be the outcome of this stoush?

The certainty is that Mahrez will leave Leicester City this summer.

But to Barcelona? Where would he play for the Blaugrana? Is he going to knock Suarez, Messi or Neymar out of the starting line up?

This situation smells a bit like the player wanting the club, more than the club wanting the player.

You can put your money on Mahrez staying in the Premier League next season.

Likelihood: Red or Blue not Red and Blue
