TRIBAL TRENDS - TRANSFERS: Messi wants Alli at Barca?; van Dijk Liverpool move back on?; PSG offer Arsenal players for Alexis?;

With the amount of rumours swirling around at this time of year, it is sometimes difficult to decipher the truth.

These are matters of importance.

As the transfer talk is now directed at the all-important summer market, there are enormous amounts of speculation swirling around Europe and the UK.

Not to worry however, because here at Tribalfootball, we have broken down the week's hottest transfer rumours, and inform you whether you should believe the paper talk or not.

Here are our top five trending transfer stories for the past week:

Dele Alli - Tottenham

Clubs Interested: Barcelona

Let's just clear one thing up. Barcelona have not stated their intent to sign Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, their sights are set firmly on Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

But Lionel Messi wants the club to sign Alli instead of Coutinho, and Messi IS Barcelona, so you get jist.

Don Balón claims that the Argentine superstar, as well several other teammates, have agreed that the 21-year old would be a better signing than Coutinho.

The group of players, lead by Messi, are growing concerned with Neymar's increase in power at Camp Nou.

The threat of the Brazilian leaving to join PSG is growing, and the disgruntled players believe the club are simply trying to appease Neymar by signing his compatriot.

It's certainly not unreasonable to think that Barcelona could approach Tottenham about a possible transfer for Alli.

The England international is a supreme talent and would inevitably flourish in Barcelona's system - and by playing with Suarez, Iniesta and Messi.

It seems the Coutinho interest is legitimate, however. With Neymar's touch-and-go transfer to PSG, it would be easy to see how Barca might succumb to their young star's wishes.

Likelihood: Unlikely

Virgil van Dijk- Southampton

Clubs Interested: Liverpool

The wheels are starting to turn again for the mooted transfer of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool.

After all the back and forth from the two clubs; from Southampton's fury at the Reds 'tapping up' of the Dutchman, to the subsequent apology from Liverpool after the Saints reported them to the FA for their actions. It seemed it was all over when Liverpool publicly ended their interest in the 25-year old.

But we didn't really think this was over, did we?

Well, it's not. And according to Sky Sports, it will happen by the end of the week.

I don't know if I would go that far, considering how long this thing has dragged on already, it just wouldn't seem right if it all wrapped up quickly.

Stay optimistic though, Liverpool fans, because the one thing that has saved this transfer is the one thing that was always going too.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK.

The former Celtic centre-back has always wanted this move. Remember the photo he posted on the plane? Gazing into an imaginary unveiling at Anfield, only for his dream to be dashed after Southampton's FA call.

Well now he's had enough. He's been forced to train away from the senior group, according to Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino, and was left off the squad that flew to France.

Southampton can say their going to be resolute and stubborn all they want, but van Dijk got a huge boost in wages when he re-signed last summer, do you think the Saints want to pay him for sitting on the bench?

Likelihood: Done

Diego Costa - Chelsea

Clubs Interested: AC Milan, Atletico

Diego Costa will not be a Chelsea player this season. He's gone. Goodbye. Sayanora. Tchau.

Maybe that's a little bit hasty, given the complicated deal that the Spain international desires.

AS claims that Costa has all but completed a switch to Atletico Madrid. Of course, this is not going to be a straight deal. Remember, Los Rojiblancos are not able to sign anybody until January due their transfer ban.

Diego Simeone has demanded that Costa find another club to play for until then, and not waste his time riding jetski's with his dog in Brazil. Ok, he didn't say that, but that's what the 28-year has been doing while Chelsea have been in Asia.

AC Milan have also shown an interest in Costa, and given their transfer window so far, it isn't unforeseeable that they could get the Brazil native.

However, expect Atletico, Chelsea and Costa to sort something out. The bond is too strong.

Likelihood: It will happen somehow

Alexis Sanchez- Arsenal

Clubs Interested: PSG

France Football reporter Nabil Djelli has declared that PSG have included either Lucas Moura or Blaise Matuidi in a deal for Alexis Sanchez.

The Arsenal star has been consistently linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer.

Bayern Munich have ruled themselves out, leaving Manchester City and the Parisians as the only real suitors.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger would love another player in return for the Chilean, if he were to leave the club.

But that is a big if.

Sanchez has another year to run on his contract and Arsenal are determined for him too see it out.

Likelihood: Alexis will stay

Emre Can - Liverpool

Clubs Interested: Juventus

Tuttosport has claimed Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has agreed a deal with Juventus.

The big German has another year to run on his contract, but has yet to agree to an extension with the Reds.

The Old Lady are preparing to launch an offer, which is set to be worth between £27m and £31.5m.

Despite the contract uncertainty with Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp values his compatriot highly and it would be a surprise if the club sell one of his favourite players.

Likelihood: Can't see it happening
