TRIBAL TRENDS - TRANSFERS: Man City offer Iniesta tempting deal?; Chelsea battling Man Utd for Griezmann?; Real Madrid star Modric departure?;

With the amount of rumours swirling around at this time of year, even after the summer transfer window, it is sometimes difficult to decipher the truth.

These are matters of importance.

With all the transfer talk now directed at the January winter market, there are still enormous amounts of speculation swirling around Europe and the UK.

Not to worry however, because here at Tribalfootball, we have broken down the week's hottest transfer rumours, and inform you whether you should believe the paper talk or not.

Andreas Iniesta - Barcelona

Clubs Interested: Manchester City, Juventus

Manchester City have been in contact with Andreas Iniesta.

The Barcelona captain is out of contract at the end of the season, and although he has expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou, he has stated publicly that he feels disrespected by the way negotiations have played out.

Pep Guardiola is keen to re-unite with his former maestro and Iniesta will be able to able to sign a pre-contract agreement for City in January.

One perk that is being floated around to try and tempt Iniesta away from Catalonia is the three-team option.

This means that, following Iniesta's stay in Manchester, the 33-year old will then have the option to join one of City's sister clubs, Melbourne City or New York City FC.

If Iniesta were to leave Barcelona, which is unlikely - his former teammate Xavi left when he was 35 - this would be an enticing offer given how well it has worked out for David Villa, another former Barca teammate.

Juventus have also been linked with Iniesta, but that deal makes zero sense for Max Allegri's side.

The Old Lady were destroyed in the Champions League final partly because they lacked pace in their midfield, and with Iniesta approaching his mid-30's, that is a quality he doesn't possess.

Likelihood: Not likely - maybe in the future

Luka Modric - Real Madrid

Clubs Interested: Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United

Luka Madrid has decided he will leave Real Madrid before his current contract expires.

That is according to Don Balon.

Despite being tied to the club until 2020, Modric is in search of a new challenge after an utterly dominant stint with Los Blancos.

After winning La Liga and three Champions League titles, it's not hard too see why Modric would be looking for a new challenge.

According to reports, Modric rejected the advances of AC Milan and Juventus this summer.

Jose Mourinho has also been a long-term admirer of the Croatian.

A return to the Premier League with Manchester United, or just England in general, is hard to envisage for the diminutive midfielder.

As he now enters into his thirties, expect too see Modric opt for a move to the slower, less physically demanding Serie A.

A nice house on the coast, warm weather and short flight back to his homeland - Ah, he'll be in heaven.

Likelihood: Buongiorno

Antoine Griezmann- Atletico Madrid

Clubs Interested: Chelsea, Manchester United

The Sun has claimed Chelsea are joining the race for Antoine Griezmann.

According to the report, Chelsea's chief negotiator, Marina Granovskaia, is being hassled by Antonio Conte, after a transfer window that he has deemed to be subpar.

The Blues missed out on Virgil van Dijk, Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, who Conte had identified as priority targets.

To appease the irritated Italian, Granovskaia wants to bring Griezmann to the club.

It is understood he could be included in a deal involving Diego Costa going the other way.

Imagine Griezmann and Hazard behind Alvaro Morata?

Chelsea fans would be salivating just thinking aboutthe prospect of that attack gracing the Stamford Bridge turf.

Manchester United were keen on Griezmann all summer, and they would have got their man, had Atleti not had their transfer embargo appeal rejected.

Jose Mourinho won't forget about the talented Frenchman, so expect the Red Devils to come after Griezmann hard once again when next summer rolls around.

Either club looks possible, but who wants it more?

Likelihood: Either one

Diego Costa- Chelsea

Clubs Interested: Atletico Madrid

The potential deal-breaker in the aforementioned Griezmann transfer is Diego Costa.

There is one certainty this season: Costa will be an Atletico Madrid player.

Marca says a deal worth €60m has been negotiated between the two clubs.

But it doesn't matter the price, when or where, it's done.

This whole saga, yeah the one with Costa exiled in Brazil, has dragged on because he wants to join Atletico, and no-one else.

Likelihood: Done deal

Maxime Lopez - Marseille

Clubs Interested: Barcelona, Real Madrid

According to Diario Gol, Real Madrid are planning to sabotage Barcelona's move for Marseille wonderkid Maxime Lopez.

The 19-year-old, who made 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season, is viewed as potential replacement for Andreas Iniesta.

The Catalans believe they'll get priority for the Frenchman because their former goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta is now Marseille's sports director.

Their relationship however, could be superseded by Zinedine Zidane's connection with the Lopez family.

Zidane's sons are close friends with Maxime, especially Enzo, and the Los Blancos manager has lined up Lopez as the natural heir for Luka Modric.

Given Lopez's immense potential, expect both of these clubs to pull out their war chests to secure his signature.

Likelihood: Who knows
