Trapattoni in talks for Republic of Ireland job

Former Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni is in talks with the Football Association of Ireland about the national team job.

Sky Sports News says Trapattoni is the new hot favourite to lead Ireland and is already in talks with the FAI.

Steve Staunton left the post after failing to qualify for Euro 2008 and at the moment team affairs are in the hands of Don Givens, Don Howe and Ray Houghton.

If Trap does accept the position, he could well make his debut on the Irish bench for the high-profile friendly against Brazil on February 6.
