Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has risked war with Wolves manager Mick McCarthy.
Trapattoni must choose between Kevin Doyle or West Brom's Shane Long as Robbie Keane's partner for tomorrow's Euro 2012 qualifier in Andorra.
He said: "McCarthy uses Doyle because he has only Doyle.
"He stays alone up front a lot for his club. He is like somebody in a desert."
Trapattoni claimed Doyle was not fit for last month's game with Slovakia and only played him because Long was crocked.
But ex-Ireland boss McCarthy said: "He says Doyle should be at a bigger club and isn't fit. He's 100 per cent fit - just like he was for their last game."
