The Republic of Ireland coach, Giovanni Trapattoni, has risked angering Darron Gibson again by suggesting that he should leave Manchester United to further his career. Gibson opened the scoring in the 3-0 victory over Wales at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, but is not a regular at Old Trafford.
Trapattoni said: "He can do more. He has a big potential. If I was Gibson I would go to another team where I always play.
"By doing this you can build your mentality. Manchester is Manchester and it is an important club, but sometimes the young players need to play, play and play. It builds confidence."
The Italian made similar remarks about Gibson last year. At that point, the player offered an angry response.
"To be honest, if he's trying to say that I should move somewhere like Stoke City and change my game to winning tackles and not winning games, then he's having a laugh. To move on from Manchester United just doesn't make sense to me," responded Gibson.
