The brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is trialling with Tranmere Rovers.
John Rooney, 9, is a free agent after turning down a contract at Macclesfield Town and has had trials in America with MLS side Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers.
The striker, who also had trial spells with Huddersfield and Derby last season, is expected to return to America in January but Tranmere will explore the possibilities of a short term deal if he impresses..
