Tranmere Rovers are eyeing Newcastle United midfielder Conor Newton.

The Evening Chronicle says the 21-year-old - who is available for loan - was checked out during United's 2-1 reserve-team loss to Manchester United this week.

Newton scored in the game and put in a superb performance at right-back in front of a host of watching scouts.
