Traktovenko sets targets for Sydney FC

Sydney FC's new owner Robert Traktovenko wants Asian Champions League qualification next season. The former Zenit St Petersburg chairman told the Sunday Telegraph: "A minimum acceptable target for next season is a top-four finish, but our sights must be set on Asian Champions League qualification."

Traktovenko also said: "Undoubtedly my time with Zenit provided me with invaluable experience in running a professional football club and I will definitely use this experience when working with Sydney FC. In my opinion, Sydney FC and Zenit have a lot in common: the two cities have similar size populations and both cities currently have only one football team in the top level national league.

"On the other hand the lifestyle in Australia and Russia is very different, as is the development of football and it would be a mistake to bluntly apply the Zenit model here. I expect the club's administration to look at best practice from around the world to ensure we build a modern, successful and commercially viable Football Club."
