Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has stated that players who will train well this week will be starting against Southampton in the Premier League opener.
The Magpies get their Premier League campaign underway this weekend at St James' Park and McClaren has said that the upcoming training session this week will decide who will be starting against the visiting Saints.
McClaren highlighted his strike options in particular which sees Papiss Cisse and Aleksandar Mitrovic vying for a start this Sunday.
McClaren told the Chronicle: "A lot will depend on how they all train this week. People say that training is not important, but it is for us.
"So along with everyone, it depends on how they train as to whether they'll play, start or be on the bench or in the stand."
