Townsend not getting carried away with Tottenham form

Andros Townsend is not getting ahead of himself despite his recent scoring form.

The 22-year old winger added to his debut international goal against Montenegro on Friday by netting the opener in Sunday's 2-0 triumph over Aston Villa to open up his Premier League account for Spurs.

Townsend has emerged as a bolter in the Spurs squad this season, gaining starts ahead of a number of big-name summer signings, but he insists he has his feet firmly planted on the ground.

"It's been one of the best few weeks of my life," Townsend told Sky Sports. "But the main thing today was getting back to winning ways after the result against West Ham (3-0 loss before the international break).

"Obviously, scoring for my country on my debut was one of the highlights of my career, but getting my first goal for my hometown club in the Premier League is up there.

"The main thing for me now is to not get carried away, to keep my feet on the ground and keep putting in the performances when I get the chance for Spurs."
