Townsend insists Crystal Palace in great shape despite quiet summer

Andros Townsend insists Crystal Palace are in "great shape" ahead of the Premier League season.

The Eagles have failed to make a big splash in the transfer market, with free agent goalkeeper Vicente Guaita their only arrival.

But Townsend believes Palace, who finished 11th last season, have shown their quality so far in preseason and will be more than ready for the 2018/19 campaign.

"We are going into the season in great shape and hopefully we can get a better start than last time," said Townsend.

"Whether we get new signings isn't down to me, but you could see against Reading the quality we have and strength in depth coming off the bench.

"And we saw that last season when we had about 10 injuries, if called upon we have a good squad of 17 or 18 who can all come in.

"We are feeling good after our pre-season, we have had some good games and always nice when you can get some wins against decent sides like Reading, who like to get the ball down.

"So we are looking forward to another week's training, and then a final pre-season game against Toulouse in front of our own fans. We all have our own personal targets, I want to score more goals than last season, get some assists and help us improve on last season."
