Townsend delighted for Mason over Spurs breakthrough

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend is delighted for Ryan Mason over his first team chance this season.

The attacking midfielder, 23, who was on loan at Swindon last season, had plenty of chances to leave Spurs but always believed he could eventually make it.

Townsend said: "I've known Ryan since we were eight and he has always been someone with immense amounts of quality - he's just been unlucky with injuries.

"He's had to be patient and go out on loan, like I did. But he's now playing for a manager who believes in him and trusts him.

"Ryan believed that no matter how old he was and how many times he'd been out on loan that he could eventually break into the first team because his quality is there for everyone to see.

"He came on the pre-season tour and was our best player.

"Unfortunately, he picked up another injury which set him back a month or so. But he's returned and it's great he has finally broken through into the first team - hopefully he can stay there.

"Tottenham has always been a club which has produced young players and it's good to see that tradition continuing.

"There's definitely a bright future for the club."
