Toure convinced Man City can be as big as Barcelona

Yaya Toure insists new club Manchester City can become as big as Barcelona.

Toure is convinced there is the potential at Eastlands for moneybags City to become one of the world's biggest clubs in the next few years.

The Ivory Coast midfielder said: "I came here because City have a great coach in Roberto Mancini and have signed some big players, like Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor.

"I hope they become a big club like Barcelona. We will have to work very hard and it will take some years but I am sure we will get there. This will be a big team like Barca, Manchester United or Chelsea."

While Barcelona have won trophies for fun in recent times, City have not picked up any silverware since the League Cup back in 1976.

And £24million Toure, thought to be the Premier League's highest-paid player on around £180,000 a week, insists the prospect of writing his name into the club's history books is what appeals.

He added: "I won everything at Barcelona and needed another challenge. Manchester City is a very nice challenge. The most important thing now is to do great things at this club."
