Tottenham's Huddlestone realistic about England chances

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone isn't obsessing over and England call.

He admitted to The Sun: "Obviously, it was flattering to hear what Mr Capello said about me but first and foremost I've got to cement a starting place at Tottenham and I don't think I've done that.

"I still keep my fingers crossed when the team's being read out.

"The four central midfielders in the England squad play for United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City, so there are great players in front of me.

"When Michael Carrick was at Tottenham we finished fifth and he was excellent.

"I was only 18 but played against him in training and watching him closely taught me a lot.

"He's quicker than people think, good with both feet, can shoot, has a big presence and is strong.

"I can't argue that if I do well against United and Chelsea it will improve my chances of getting in the England squad but you can't think too far ahead. Last season I wasn't picked for 16 or 17 Premier League games and was starting to get concerned about my future.

"There's only so long you can stay and fight for your place but so far this season things have gone well.

"The World Cup is everybody's aim. Now I've got to be playing well every week to give myself the best possible chance."
