Tottenham's Gardner delighted to complete Hull switch

Hull City have completed the loan signing of Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner.

Gardner had hoped a move to Everton in January last season would revive his fortunes, after falling down the order at Tottenham.

However the centre-back, who won one England cap in 2004, could not force his way into the Everton first team and left Goodison Park without making an appearance.

He will spend the first half of the new season at the KC Stadium following the agreement with Tottenham, who have Jonathan Woodgate, Ledley King and Michael Dawson competing for places in central defence.

"I do feel like I've got a bit of a point to prove now," Gardner told the Hull Daily Mail.

"Not playing regularly and being at a big club where there's lots of competition, it got very frustrating.

"Spurs are a club where you've got internationals in every position and sometimes it's difficult to cement a place and play week-in and week-out.

"Over the last two years I haven't played regularly either through that or through fitness.

"I'm looking to stay fit and play games, that's my first port of call."
