A swap deal involving Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe and Everton's Andy Johnson is being mooted.

The News of the World says Defoe could leave White Hart Lane as part of a deal that could see Everton's Johnson moving in the opposite direction.

According to reports over the weekend Johnson has held crisis talks with Everton boss David Moyes over his poor form. Those discussions were amicable as the pair sought to resolve the striker's problems but that Moyes could be tempted to allow Johnson to leave if Defoe was part of the deal.

Defoe looks a certainty to leave Spurs in January if Martin Jol remains in charge and Tottenham are known to be long term admirers of Johnson.
