He said: "Nowadays players arrive at the end of the transfer window and just have one or two training sessions before they play.
"I did not know much about Alan. But he really surprised me in training. He trained hard, did well and showed against Manchester United what he can bring to Spurs.
"For his first game he did very well and you can see he is a fighter. He will do a lot for us and do a good job for Spurs."
