Tottenham's Bent won't take preseason form for granted

Darren Bent admits he won't let his preseason form go to his head at Tottenham.

"I don't want to take anything for granted because I know what happened last year," said the 24-year-old. "I played virtually every game in pre-season and then I was still dropped for the first game of the season.

"Martin Jol pulled me aside before we played Torino in our final pre-season game to tell me he was going to play Robbie and Berba because they were that important to the side. Then he just told me to stay sharp, in case.

"It was quite a whack to my confidence after playing really well. And that's why this season I'm not taking anything for granted.

"We've lost Robbie and there is speculation about Berba going so the manager is obviously going to bring someone else in. It could come to Friday night, we buy two new strikers and they play instead, so until kick-off on Saturday I'm not taking anything for granted and I'll be rubbing my eyes in disbelief when I see the team-sheet."
