Tottenham are wrapping up the £3 million return of Sunderland defender Pascal Chimbonda today.
The Sun says Spurs boss Harry Redknapp desperately wants him as cover for the injured Alan Hutton.
Tottenham were rebuffed when they tried to nab Chimbonda on loan as Sunderland insisted on a straight transfer.
It is understood the clubs were still haggling over the deal last night but the French star was said to be travelling down to London for a medical.
A source close to the negotiations said: "Spurs are pushing hard to get the player.
"A fee has not yet been agreed but it seems certain to go through."
