Tottenham winger Andros Townsend admits he dived during their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Ref Mike Dean booked Townsend for simulation after the winger dived over Frank Lampard’s leg in the first half against Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

With refreshing honesty, Townsend said: "I said to the ref at half-time that the leg was there and he pulled out at the last minute and I still went over. It was a deserved yellow card and I have got to kick it out of my game.

"You make mistakes, and that dive was a mistake. I apologised to the ref. I said to him at half-time that I thoroughly deserved it and hopefully I won’t do it again.

"It all goes so fast. The leg is there and you go over it. It’s sort of instinct. If there’s contact, it’s not a dive."
